501 must-read books

A kind friend recently presented me with this fine tome.
As I go through it I'm discovering lots of "old friends"
no longer present on my shelves. They've been passed on
to family members, friends, booksales...
It would be lovely to keep all the books you encounter
in life. Unfortunately in my case I'd need a fine bank
balance to afford a bigger house to hold all those I'd
love to have kept. Perhaps I should've become a librarian...

I'm afraid I've never read it. 8^> Nice shot, this one; the book being posted in the definitive "book pose", which is apt given its subject.

What a lovely idea for a present for a book lover! We have piles of them too, need more book shelves...does anyone ever have enough shelf space!?

I will never live long enough to read all that have passed through my hands....love this shot, Maire.

The must have book! What a great idea. I can't find anything in my bookcase anymore, and I often wonder if anyone will love my collection of gardening books, so carefully chosen and well loved. A fine capture! V

Something I have not been very good at. My Father had a fine collection. Each new house added more and more built in shelf space.

I should get myself one too and see what I have been missing.

A fascinating book. I am always interested which books make these "lists" and which don't. We have well over 5,000 books and I could not imagine life without them. Books are such an integral part of our lives. Not a day passes when we don't read.

Sounds familiar...no matter how often I pass books onto friends or relatives or donate them to charity shops, there's always more looking for space on the already crowded bookcases.

I know the problem...my most recent 'literary' purchase was yet another bookshelf...this tome might also lead you to discover a few books you haven't yet read..

Does it include itself - in which case, would the title be wrong? It's a complicated question.... I think I rather read a proper book than a list of proper books though :o)
