The first thing I re-installed was the pump cam. Be sure to use the small copper crush washer that came with the rebuild kit or it will leak out of the screw hole..
My nearly new Volvo Penta D1-30F engine waterpump (only 50 hours running), failed at sea last week due to the cam breaking free and revolving. The tiny locator screw (?copper colored at the break) appears to have sheared with the broken ends looking very "pink". Any ideas what has gone wrong? Is there anything I could have done to prevent this? Could I have done a repair at sea? (I had to be rescued by the coast guard) I am very surprised that my life could depend on such a small copper alloy screw.
