Honorable Mention:Girl on Beach (Julian Kornacki)

We were visiting Long Beach Island, New Jersey. During a walk along the beach my daughter, as always, was exploring nature - this time marine life. I was walking around with my camera. There was a slight breeze. The beach gently curved. As I saw here walking, it all suddenly framed together very nicely - her face, hair, wind direction, clothing, what see was doing, colors and the beach. In a rush I took the photograph quite quickly, to eventually find that the photograph was somewhat rotated. The rotation makes the image so much more visually effective. The photo was not posed, and it just shows a worry free/relaxed face. It conveys a connection between what she was doing and holding in her hand.

From Chuck Gardner:
What looked at first glance like a poorly
composed snapshot with a tilted horizon was converted with a bit of
Photoshop edited into a very effective high-key background shot because of
the chance coordination of the clothing with the background colors which
were both taken lighter in the edit to contrast with the darker skin tone.
The coup de grace was changing the shell she is carrying from black to
white to eliminate it as a distraction.
