Cicada Killer Wasp ~ Sphecius speciosus

BIG
Female dragging a Cicada into her nest.
Powerful flyers they can carry a Cicada
of nearly twice their own weight.
They are big. About as big as your thumb.
Had no idea what they were at first, they have a
bunch of nests next to our driveway. Luckily they
very seldom sting humans, unless very, very irritated.
The sting reportedly isn't very painful at all.
