The 29th running of the New Alliance New Haven 20K and 5K Labor Day road race brought 5000 runners from around the world to the New Haven Green. The 20K runners competed for the AAU 20K national title. The weather was cool - perfect for a fast pace. With Olympians and former national champs in the field, the competition was intense. To make this page, you either won your race, almost won, or otherwise distinguished yourself in a crowded field. Also, it helped if you were related to the photographer.
Marla Runyan of Eugene, Oregon and Ryan Hall of Palo Alto, California won the women's and men's 20K races. Runyan is a 2000 and 2004 Olympian. In the 5K, Oscar Gonzalez-Barreto of New Haven paced the men's field with a first place finish. Lindsey Scherf of Scarsdale, New York was first in the women's field.
