"Braker Bar " On Old " Liberty Oval Carabiner ( Note: Old Style Notch In Gate )

Braker Bars are a thing of the past and use to use these to " Repel " . Problem was some folks mistakingly put rope on wrong side of gate ,which would then pop open under load ,,, Bad News.. These are now replaced by " Figure Eight Decender Rings ".. Old Oval " Beaners " are not as strong as today " D " beaners and note that gate notch is not " Hooked " inside notch.. This braker bar is well worn by your's truely,, and now retired,,,

Got a couple old 'biners like this and an old braker bar - they worked great but you're right the standard warning was don't put the rope in backwards - not too many second chances on that one.
