It is my intent to show a somewhat tangential view of the Emergency Department - one which captures candid moments, without suggesting glamour or passing judgment.

The sea of humanity that floods most urban EDs across the country, contuses the soul of our collective consciousness... how do we allow the degree of hopelessness among millions of humans fester unchecked, amidst the beautiful rolling fields of American wealth, power and global influence?

The pure spirit of our people must harmonize and evolve... the direction of willful change guided by the anticipated effect our actions leave on our children, five generations from now. Regardless of the religious specifics we cherish with gentle hands, when our lasting creations, anoint the souls of distant infants with peace, love and comfort from suffering, we are eternal... our toil insuring the cycle propagates endlessly. I can think of few greater purposes.

Wow, your trauma center is very different and far advanced compared to ours here in the Philippines. Would love to someday work in a hospital like that. Anyway nice work on the pics, each pic really tells it's story and if I may say, you really captured the moment. Being a trauma nurse is a really fulfilling experience. Proud to be an ER Trauma Nurse.

what a brilliant gallery. I don't believe it's the camera, but it's the hands behind the camera for having these magnificent images depicting life in ER/Trauma. I remember the day when you called for retrograde intubation, my first experience and to this date my last.Nice to hear you're back in Wisconsin...keep up the good deeds.

What a great gallery - much better than the stuff TV tries to pass off. I really like your use of B&W; the context is maintained without the complete shock of real colours in such an environment.

Tony, I've worked with you so long and recently became aware of this deep introspective side the side that makes each of us an individual, we have couples, colleagues, a sea of humanity and how litle we know about each other or even dare for fear we are invading someone's privacy so we have human beings bahaving as shells, treated as 'shells' and ultimately becoming shells.

these are the best pictures...i've worked in an er for ten years as a er tech, when i showed my husband these pictures, i said, " heres my job every picture is acurate, and thats how every day is." my favorite is the picture of street lights after a long shift.
i feel that way every night on my way home....beautiful work....you do need to include, next time, the typical drunk bum, on fri night after payday, naked, with only a diaper on.......we like to send those guys to jail that way...we throw away thier urine soaked cloths...the cops love it............thanks for putting our job into pictures, much regards fellow er employee from california....steph

I was an ER nurse for 13 years until last Summer. These photos bring back emotions reminding me what I miss about the ER.

Very nice. I've been in a Level 1 trauma center for 8 years, and these photos really capture the feel. The photo of the floor of the trauma room, after everyone has left, is one I've thought of taking many times.
