This mama ruffed grouse definitely had her feathers ruffled, and I don't blame her. She was escorting a chick across the road
as we came upon her (the chick must have been very young; it was smaller than a chicken egg).
When we inadvertently startled her, she headed back to the nest, where I suspect there were several more chicks. After a number of diverting moves, etc.,
she finally appeared in full battle gear, where she posed for me a bit. I was hoping she would begin to accept this gus standing in the middle of the road
and lead more chicks across, but it was not to be. I like to think she crossed the road to find her chick after we left.
