Old Castle Lachlan, on the shores of Loch Fyne, has been home of clan MacLachlan since it arrived in Scotland from Ireland more than one thousand years ago. As Jacobite sympathisers, the clan suffered heavily at Culloden and later at the hands of the Campbells, when the castle was besieged and attacked by English soldiers in 1746. The old castle is now a listed ruin and there is an easy walk across the bay to see this unique and atmospheric fortress.
