Ex Servicemens Club 1

Thanks to Roger Betts for the picture.

His message:
"This club , in it's day was extremely popular. Mum and Dad used to take me there when I was a little'un. Wally and Kit Thurston used to run the place then. I can just remember there was a mural over the bar which, I think, depicted all the regulars. Mum and Dad where on it. These pics were taken the day after the big fire which sadly destroyed the place. On the ground floor was Nokes car showroom. Nokes also had a showroom on the other side of the road."

Didn't realise that the place was burnt down. My Dad (Ken Newbury) and I both played darts for the Ex. He for the 'A' team who had an unbeatable side on the old 'Kent' doubles board prior to the 'new' trebles board coming in! Most of my time there was between 1972-77 and 1981-86.
