The tea room mentioned was no longer a tea room by the time of the 1980's. It was called the Gem Stores and was run by a husband and wife team with help from their two children. I lived in Warden View Gardens, the road which runs behind the shop. It was a better shop than the paper shop in Mustards Road.

That black-and-white house stood on the corner of Mustards Road and the Leysdown Road - it was only pulled down a few years back. The photo looks like it's more than 50 years old as that's the old road, before it was rebuilt to a higher standard with a pavement.
The tea-room there is interesting. As a boy in the 80s I remember it as a grocery shop, a rival to the Coopers' Bay View Stores along Mustards Road. They sold fruit and veg and had a selection of sweets... I used to get "Munchies" from them as a special treat!
It makes me wonder if there were any more shops in Bay View in the past. There was of course the garage/caravan shop (now the site of 17 houses) and the pub, but were there any other shops? If anyone knows, I'd be interested to find out.
