Rephotography: Negro Bill Canyon

These pictures show me lying on a rock shelf directly over Negro Bill Creek. This shelf became special for me when I first visited it in July 2005 (first photo), possibly because it is where I gave up on further exploration due to the brutal heat of that day (105F or 40C).

The heat must have imprinted something in my brain that attracts me to this spot, because I have revisited it on later trips to Moab. The water makes a pleasant gurgling sound as it flows over the uneven bedrock.

The rock shelf appears at the center of this WikiMapia aerial view.

For all the self-portraits I relied confidently on the
camera-supporting prowess of Joe Tripod.

This is just one of several interesting places in the canyon.
Others are shown in a gallery devoted to the canyon in general.
