Rephotography: Snoqualmie Pass

In 2004 I began a tradition of taking a self-portrait at Snoqualmie Pass when I drive over it on my way to and from Utah. Most trips to Utah use that route. Interstate 90 crosses the pass and is about 600 feet (184 m) behind me in these photos.

Snoqualmie Pass is 50 miles (80 km) southeast of Seattle in the Cascade Mountains. Elevation of the pass is 3004 feet (916m). There is a cluster of day-use ski areas around the summit. A parking lot of one of the ski areas is the setting for these photos. My vantage point for all photos was at the center of this WikiMapia aerial view.

The views look north toward two prominent mountains: Snoqualmie Mountain (in the background) and Guye Peak (the dark pyramid). In some photos, the flank of Denny Mountain appears at far left and Red Mountain shows up at far right.

This repetitive documentation would not be possible without the steady support of my photographic sidekicks Joe Tripod (lightweight) and Ralph Tripod (heavy). Both have contributed to these photos and neither of them is bothered by the rarefied air at 3000 feet.
