No PBase account would be complete without that most revered of technical reports, the lens test. Photogeeks by the hundreds go to great (focal?) lengths to document the perfomance of this lens or that lens, sometimes in comparison to a similar lens made by another manufacturer. Those resolution charts and color comparisons are spellbinding and informative, but they reflect only the cold, technical side of a lens's life. What they universally omit is the more sensitive, personal side of performance. It is my hope that this lens test remedies that shortcoming.

Dave, leave it to you to to return to lenses everywhere their dignity and lensmanity. This test gives a clear, sharp picture of the living lens, rather than simply an assemblage of metal, glass and plastic. You and Prof. Listorama should share the Nobel Prize in Anthropomorpics, although Britney Spears' handlers might be a close second (for past work only).
