From atop a huge fin I gaze at other fins ("Behind the Rocks")

Southeast Poison Spider Mesa (near Moab, Utah) view map

I'm sitting on top of a huge sandstone fin that rises above Potash Road, directly across the Colorado River from the Kane Creek Campground. The river is about 400 feet (130m) below me and flows from left (Moab) to right (Potash). Above and beyond the campground is the collection of fins shown here---an area known as "Behind the Rocks." The snowy La Sal Mountains lie in the distance.

Joe Tripod, delighted to be atop a fin again, dedicated
himself to solid support of my camera for this photo.

John, all that contemplation strained my ability to talk. All I said was "Let's boogie!"

As the master of all that he can see, agent listorama enjoys a quiet moment of solitude while contemplating his next move. Should he take the easy way down, or should he try something more audacious. Should he pause for a meal or should he forge on to the blu wgn. Should he take a few moments to contemplate the majesty of the fins or should he return directly to the safety of the campsite. Indeed Agent Litstorama faced a monumental task of decision making. After a few more seconds of quiet contemplation, he turned to his faithful assistant Joe and said, "Screw it, we're outta here."
