World land speed record attempt rained out

Bonneville Speedway (Wendover, Utah) view map

I was hoping to establish a new world land speed record with my Subaru station wagon by driving 800 mph (1290 kph) on the Bonneville Speedway, but heavy rain flooded the salt flats. Even the World Finals event (an actual competition) was cancelled. To compensate for this disappointment I waded with defiance into the Bonneville Speedway "lake." This baptism was my only venture onto the salt flats. My speed support team went home, unpaid.

To the right, in the distance, is a low pinkish mountain called Floating Island.

My photographic assistant, Joe Tripod, was content to remain on the access road for this photo.

I like this shot, I would love to stroll about in this salty flooded lake taking photos.
You are very lucky Dave.

The scariest image of something emerging from the water I've seen, since seeing "Creature from the Black Lagoon" when I was 5...

This new Nikon takes good shots Dave

Nice image, Dave! It has "legs", so to speak, although it lacks footing. You could have worn a cape to make it more mysterious or to hide your obvious disappointment in missing out on the record.

you could have just waded it out till it dried up....

Very nice shot. Shouldn't have worn those bunny slippers, though.

I thought all Special Edition Speed Racer Subaru Wagons came equipped with water wings and bilge pumps as standard accessories.
Tripod Joe has outdone himself with this shot! Great SP.

Plan B, should have been, drive at half the projected speed over the lake and claim the World Water Speed Record.
