Shortly after passing the shadowy pour-off of the previous picture I rounded the bend (at the left)
and saw this imposing formation. Note the sandstone bedrock at lower left: that was a welcome change
from endless sand, most of which was covered or speckled with cryptobiotic soil. Then I walked to the
right and slightly up on the gentle slope and saw what is shown in the next picture.
