Steve, thank you for your concern, but you can relax. The shape of the roots is the result of a magnetic anomaly which lingered here for some time, causing a harmless and amusing genetic mutation. The previous reference to evil was purely hypothetical. This forest is now used frequently for school field trips in which mathematics is shown to be part of nature. Local math scores have risen as a result and abacus manufacturers cannot keep up with the demand for their product.

Dave, I find it very disturbing that these trees have square roots. Is this some kind of alien plot to destroy the earth's flora and suffocate us through lack of oxygen and foul our waters due to increased streambank erosion?
You're on the right path, Larry: the sum of the trees here IS a prime number. However, prime numbers neither abet nor condone evil in any form. If evil exists here, it must be of another type---perhaps related to square roots.
