I've been surfing on the railroad...

Did you know that people often surf the Internet at work? It's a phenomenon that
is on the rise, especially regarding web sites that present pictures of naked
women. (What's the attraction?) Otherwise upstanding employees have been fired
for spending their workday pursuing such entertainment.

PBase management does not condone the practice because it "negatively impacts" the
"bottom line" of businesses, which hurts the competitiveness of the United States
in the global marketplace. However, schrewd economic advisors have convinced the
organization to selectively support certain markets where the benefit outweighs the
"down side." Pictured here is one of many signal translators used to keep railroad crews
amused while crossing vast expanses of boring landscape. This is a "dedicated" system:
its signals are beamed to a specific audience and cannot be received by anyone else.

Unhappy engineers and conductors are not a pretty sight. Happy crew members
are worth more to their employers---as long as engineers don't confuse the
computer mouse with the locomotive throttle. There have been derailments due
to inattention on the part of crew members who were surfing away, oblivious to
disaster lurking just around the bend. PBase prefers that this "special
arrangement" be kept confidential because of repercussions that could arise
from public knowledge of such a business practice.
