May 2012

Upper Negro Bill Canyon (near Moab, Utah) view map

Photographed during a hike from the radio tower in Sand Flats Recreation Area to a pour-off above the Porcupine Rim Trail near the Colorado River. Here I was about half-way to my destination. The creek---directly below me---made a pleasant gurgling sound.

Joe Tripod was on duty for this photo, holding my camera rock-steady.

Vern, Joe Tripod always appreciates being thought of,
but he wishes to clarify that he does not take any pictures.
Such a task is not part of his mission statement
(“stand still and hold the camera”).
I trip the shutter with an infrared remote control device.

John, thank you for that astute observation. I think I read
about that in an article describing the Cooper Astronomical
Observatory, an element of the International Space Station.

Your friend, Joe Tripod, is a fine photographer! :)

Did you know that one of the few things you can see from space is The Horizontal Hiker.
But only when he is on red rocks, anywhere else, forget it.
