Feathered stunners among Manila Bay's garbage

Fatbirder's Top 1000 Birding Websites

To get a bit closer to South Lagoon's water birds, I improvised a military-type rain poncho as a camouflage-suit. It appears to be effective, as the waders paid little attention to me while I clicked the shutter.

This morning's ebbing tide left heaps of garbage along Manila Bay's beach, a glaring reminder of how people in these islands have little regard for the environment. Still, even among the filth, feathered stunners thrive and abound... I wonder for how long. Eventually, if we don't start to take care of what's around us, these things of beauty will become mere footnotes in our kids' history books...:-(
With the morning sun behind my back, I shoot the 20D + Sigmonster at Common Redshanks feeding along the shore.
A sniper's scarf helps break up the outline of my head.
To the water birds, I must have looked like an ordinary mound of garbage...lol.

It took some effort for me to smile for the camera, what with all the man-made mess around me.
I'm actually lucky, I only come here once in a while to shoot birds, and this is NOT the place where I and my family live, wade, fly and feed.

I'm cradling the 1DM2 + 400 5.6L (for fliers), while the 20D + Sigmonster is mounted low for better angle at waders.
