Mt. Makiling - Part XV

Fatbirder's Top 1000 Birding Websites

Went back post-haste to Mt. Makiling because I was frustated with the other day's very poor pic of the Forest Wagtail. I found it again near the same spot where I saw it last. This time, both the 300D + Bigma and the 20D + 400 5.6L came out blazing. A big bonus too is another lifer - an Oriental Cuckoo.

The Philippine Falconets were at their usual business place (from where they swoop down to catch flying insects). I set up my tripod and practiced with my teleconverters...8-)

Another pleasant surprise in this trip is my discovery of the excellent usability of the Sigma 2x TC with the 400 5.6L. As long as the bird allows me time to set up my tripod and go manual focus, the 400 5.6L + 2x TC will deliver superb images. A lot of the cuckoo pics here (see those whose exif indicate an 800 mm focal length) were taken with the combination.
