Swan Creek Wetlands

Swan Creek Wetlands is located in the Curtis Bay area of Baltimore just south of the Francis Scott Key Bridge. Upon arriving at the end of Kembo Road, off of Fort Smallwood Road, one must sign in (in the trailer) before proceeding to the wetlands. If it is your first visit, you must also sign a release form. The wetlands provides an excellent opportunity to view and photograph birdlife. It is only open on weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Also of interest is the Cox Creek Dredged Material Containment Facility visible from the end of Kembo Road. It is an important placement site for material dredged from the Baltimore Harbor, operated and managed by the Maryland Port Authority and the Maryland Environmental Service. There are two dredging cells that are not accessible to the public but with a spotting scope one can see numerous water birds from the visitor center area.

This is a series of photographs that I have taken on my visits to the wetlands. If you get the opportunity, I recommend visiting the site.
