Just saw a male and female in Flintstone MD. I watched them both for over 40 minutes. They appeared to be in some kind of mating ritual it was so interesting to watch how they would dance around each other bobbing their heads, spinning around, and chasing each other back and forth. you could clearly tell they were courting each other

I live in Monkton, MD and just saw one on the Crepe Myrtle right off my porch. Easily as big (and fat) as a blue jay. Beautifull red V on the back neck and dark U marking on front neck (as well as all the spots). I was amazed at it's size; the one pictured appears half the size and no where as fat... very striking.

I live in Mt Washington,MD. One of these beautiful birds has been at my woodpecker pole every morning for a week now. We were able to get some great pics today. Also, he is quite large. Bigger then the Red-Bellied.

Wonderful shot! I am fortuate enough to always have a pair nesting every spring in my backyard, on the edge of a forest. One time the babies were practicaly at my feet scavaging for bugs, and the parents just hung out on a tree limb watching.
