This morning while dog walking through neighborhood gardens I saw four large birds wheeling overhead . Eventuyally all landed on a rise over a small stream very close to me . As I approached them I saw two red headed adults and two juveniles all very large hopping and jostling with each other. I concluded from footage of bald headed appearance that behavior they were vultures. They were not feeding as there was no carcass. I think they must have eaten their fill elsewhere. as were very reluctant to move . Finally the dogs caused them to take off in a leisurely fashion only when very close. Not a sight to be seen when I am rambling at home in the UK

Saw a beautiful Red Headed Turkey Vulture in Magruder Park in Hyattsville, MD this afternoon. He was huge. I have seen them here before along with the black headed variety.
It is always such a treat to see one of these magnificent birds.

I seen a pair of these birds in my neighborhood in Laurel, MD last year, then I saw one today. I usually see them once a year around this area picking off something dead in the middle of the road.

Spotted a turkey vulture in our neighbor's front yard in Rockville (Aspen Hill area). Had never seen one before and it looked like a turkey at first until it flew away. Saw it again flying around the neighborhood.

I live in Annapolis, and these birds are all over the place. You can always tell when a deer or other animal has been hit nearby. Gross, but interesting. I thought any kind of vulture only lived in the west. We had these turkey vultures all the way down to where we used to live, in North Carolina. Love this site for identifying what's in and around our yard and neighborhood!

Large Populations of these in Calvert County Maryland. The Appeal (Lusby, MD) Garbage Dump gets large flocks of these (upwards of 20+) on weekends. Must be when humans throw out the best trash.

The size of this bird scared the heck outta me. I swore this was a turkey but after I got my camera and started to look in the face it looked like a vulture. How ironic! They are starting to appear because a neighbor on the ground floor put out some poisen for the mice and it killed a few squirrels as well. I wonder will the birds eventually die from the poisen too. I work in the Bank of America building near 270. I see this bird every day on trees near my window. Looks like the highway is perfect for vultures.

I have seen this bird only twice near my back yard in Ft. Washington, MD....at first I thought it was a turkey because it was huge and I had never seen one before....then I got a closer look and a friend who was there with me told me what it was...pretty cool!

Hello, over the past two weeks (April 08) our grounds have been visited during the daytime by five large turkey vultures accompanied by three black vultures. I have never seen them here before, Boyds, Maryland. What would be attracting them at this time?
