14th December 2006 - uefa

I have had such a special night tonight it’s hard to believe it’s true. I’ve been to ‘The Lane’ to see the Spurs give Dinamo Bucharest a good thumping to finish the group stages of the UEFA cup with a spanking, pristine 12 points – something only one other club in the tournament has achieved this season.

The Spurs accredited themselves wonderfully well – from the first moment, we were cruising and although the score line was eventually 3-1, not the 3-0 shown here, the Dinamo Bucharest goal was as soft as butter, coming when both the Spurs defenders were napping (Robbo gave them a good going over for their lapse and quite rightly so) and to be frank, most of the crowd were more interested in ‘The Green Team’ than the game……..sorry folks, it’d take me too long to explain, let’s just say ‘you have to have been there’! I am so pleased to see Berbatov find his feet – he’s in my Fantasy League team and is doing a rather lovely job of it now. COYS!

I can't describe the smell of the grass, the roar of the crowd, the songs and the fun. Not only that, but I even got to sit in my old season ticket seat. How cool is that?

Anyway, not only was the game a lovely ‘exhibition match’ for us, but I also got to spend a fab evening with my buddies – lots of them. Colin, the DSHM, Carol and Maureen and the B&H. After being barred (no, not for causing a fight or getting drunk and chucking up over the place or any of the other misdemeanours you’d normally get barred for but barred I’d been anyway) from the B&H then trying my best to make recompense for my bad-ness, I had more than a bit of trepidation about going.

To cut a long story short, I was allowed back in and Carol & Maureen were lovely as ever. Those two are just the nicest pair of women you could hope to meet. If you see this Carol and Maureen – I love you both – you are so kind to me. If anyone else sees this and then finds themselves in the Bell and Hare, make sure you buy the girls a drink and tell them I said so!

Colin thinks getting barred, especially without being there, is something to be proud of. Me, I’m not so sure……I think I’ll try to be better behaved in future.

My good humour and general happiness with the world was in no way dented by having to sit on WHL station for three quarters of an hour then still ending up on a night bus at the end of the evening…..nor did the grin slip from my face at Edgeware Road station when a complete arse of a person was trespassing on the line so I had to walk the rest of the way back to my flea pit of an hotel.

WHL Sarah – I still miss you and am thinking of you today…..I’m sorry for being so ‘up’ when you were so sad.

Last year, we undertook the monumental step of exchanging contracts on this house. If you'd asked me on Monday if we'd done the right thing, I was so down I'd have said 'no way' but today, home after seeing my buddies at WHL yesterday, my sense of equilibrium has been restored and I am glad we came here.
