We’ve given ourselves a day off today and spent the morning out on the moor, in glorious sunshine. I’m aching so much from yesterday’s exertions and I know I’m just a weakling but I’ve got aches in places I didn’t know I had muscles.
DM observed that it must be a record because I only took a few photos and he’s probably right. As a general rule, I snap away at everything and then junk a big-ish proportion of what I take.
Today though, I had my wide-angle lens on the camera and somehow found it difficult to get my shots framed. I need more practice with this lens I think to get to a point where I can use it confidently and get the best from it.
We’ve been exploring a bit of the moor that we’ve not been on before, along another of the old routes of the train system that connected the mines and quarries with the sea for onward transportation. Granite from Bodmin Moor was used to build much of the South Bank in London as well as Tower bridge we discovered recently. Luckily for us, there was a lot of stone that didn’t make its way out of the county and our new home is surrounded by dry-stone walls made from granite and a bit of slate.
This photo of one of the best preserved mine buildings in the neighbourhood with a typically Cornish dry stone wall in the foreground, with DM and Archie in the foreground struck me as a nice capture of the environs of our new home.
We had to hurry home to watch the Spurs give Charlton a thrashing on the telly and I must say it was a sweet victory and a fine performance from the team. It serves me right for ducking out of going – Sunday games are a nightmare for us because we’d have to drive home the 250 miles after the game because of needing to work on Monday.
I felt very guilty for not being loyal enough to go to the match but it’d be true to say that we’ve got so much done this weekend that my head says it was definitely the right decision even though my heart wishes we’d made the other choice. We now have a completely clear dining room except for the table top (shame about the legs still being in the garage and remaining there until we can find enough cash to get a window taken out so they can come in – our friendly carpenter declined to take them apart for us due to the risk of not being able to get them back together), chairs and studio gear. No more boxes – I’ve cleared them all today since the match ended – I got invigorated by the wonderful performance.
Last year I was photographing the action at the footie.
