22nd February 2005 - waste of time and waste of airport

I’ve been on another corporate wild goose chase today. A trip to Liverpool in the snow and with a Liverpool home game where the players of the opposing side (Bayer Leverkusen) staying in our hotel.

This should have been exciting (and probably would have been in other circumstances) but it was just hugely frustrating in as much as we had no access to our rooms until 7.30pm (when we’d been sitting in reception for five hours) because our rooms had been taken by footballers who wouldn’t check out until they were on the team coach to go to the game at 6.30pm.

Our client phoned us to say she’d been put off by the snow…..and her being around was my only reason for being here. 'Looking after' her needs had been my ONLY reason for being here. So I was here without reason.

Our business meeting room had been used all day by a bunch of reps from a chewing gum giant and so we couldn’t get in there until they’d gone at 6pm. Our bedrooms were not available until after the Bayer Leverkusen team had gone and so we couldn’t get into them until after our meeting that lasted until 9.30pm.

So, here I am at midnight, writing my thing and wishing I’d been able to have a bath and a general recoup of my energy earlier…..

This photo is of the plane outside our hotel – not functional but a reference to the fact that we are at John Lennon Airport. It’s my best shot or I’m going to sound really pissed off.

So, that’s the life of the corporate whore today – standing on a train all the way to Birmingham, then sitting around in the reception of an hotel while they got their act together – it’s a glamorous life……….not!!!

Last year I was getting naked!

You're not having the best of luck are you? Sorry.
This is de Havilland Dragon Rapide, a small pre-war airliner. British European Airways still used them until 1963 to link the Scilly Isles with the mainland.

Well, I hope they had a decent bar at least! (if not, you deserve a trip to a good pub at home! Tell DM I said so!) ;) Just think, California trip is coming soon.. ahhh... good thoughts, good vibes!

Nice perspective on the plane (is that what you flew in?) Sounds like a very long and frustrating day. I don't envy you.

I think a very big complaint ought to be winging its way to the hotel management. I would be asking for a refund. Five hours in reception is just not acceptable.
