20th February 2005 - gangway 33

Oh boy has it been a hectic day today.

Someone (who shall remain nameless……DM) forgot to set our alarm for 6am this morning so we could get up, have breakfast and pack before leaving Cornwall to come back to London to see the Spurs in the FA Cup against Notts Forest. I woke up thinking ‘that’s strange – I’d have expected it to be dark at 6am’ then I looked at the clock and it was 7.21am and we were supposed to be on the road by then!!!

We scooted round and got on the road in 20 minutes and drove the 200 miles as fast as we could back to Sandhurst so we could drop off the dogs and our luggage at home before trooping off to the footie on the train.

This photo was taken at half time when we were winning and confidently expecting to score a few more in the second half. As you can see David, Olly and Tom all look as though we were well in control. In fact Forest played themselves back into the game and we ended up with a draw, with a replay on 2nd March at the City Ground.

All I can say is I hope the Notts Forest fans and staff are more hospitable than last time I went to the City Ground in 1978…..it was a blisteringly hot day (August) and the temperature was in the 90s. It was Ricky Villa and Ossie Ardilles first game for the Spurs after their magnificent performances for Argentina in the 78 World Cup. We were thrilled when they signed for Spurs that season.

We (all the Spurs fans) were held in a cinder car park with no shade for an hour and a half then escorted into the ground where there was also no shade. I lasted a whole 20 mins of the game and then fainted. I was carried out by a bunch of fans and missed Ossie Ardilles’ first goal for the team on his debut. Never mind, I later saw Villa’s wonderful goal for Spurs in the 81 Cup Final replay at Wembley after queuing all night for a ticket.

Memories!

The United Nations provided us with our entertainment a year ago today.

I don't think they get many fans nowadays, you'll probably get a settee all to yourselves!

The ups and downs of football. At least you're not Chelsea supporters tonight!
