31st October 2004 - Precious Cargo

When we were young girls, starting our own lives and going out with ‘boys’ for the first time, my Mum used to say to our suitors as we went out through the door on whatever adventure we had planned ‘take care, drive safely, you have my precious cargo in your car’.

This photo contains most (but not all) of my ‘precious cargo’ in as much as it has David, as you know by now, he’s the love of my life, it has the dogs (my babies) – typical that Rosie is looking at me and Arch is looking off into the blue yonder! It also has my Mum and Dad – just at the end of their trip to spend time with us in our sanctuary. They’ve been our ‘precious cargo’ all weekend while we’ve tried to make them see something of the place that we love.

(She whispers) I think it was a success???!!! (She shouts) I hope so.

The other one of ‘my precious things’ here is the background, Cornwall in all its misty, hazy glory. The giant rock pebbles behind DM are the famous (well, at least locally) rocks of the Cheesewring – it is said they are natural and have not been placed there by man.

I have a number of other precious things that are not in the picture (my little sis, her family, DMs family and our friends all spring to mind) but I can’t get over the sheer pleasure of seeing this shot, just for the value of seeing my parents here in the place I love. So, it’s not an original idea by any standards…..I have shot this pic and posted it many times over the last few weeks. BUT today’s has an extra dimension of happiness for me because it has my folks in it. I can’t quite articulate why that makes such an enormous difference but it does.

This is somewhere around 1300 feet above sea level by the way.

I note that they all have that 'Get on with it' expression.

in an earlier pic I decided you definitely favored your mum . . then in this one I think you favor your dad . . . but CLEARLY you favor DM =]

Its really important to photograph such 'precious cargo', so don't apologise. I was not able to do this my parents and so I can see the fragility of what some people may take for granted. Warm shot at a bleak location;-)
