A spot of navel gazing today as I’ve been indoors feeling sorry for myself all day other than a trip to the hospital for my pre-op check up.
I’ve had this shot (well as close as you can get to an unknown moment in your life) in mind for a ‘slow day’ for months and here is just such a day. So, I’m always fascinated by the contents of handbags and so I’m sure there are other voyeurs out there who can’t wait to see the inside of a girl’s bag. I hope it’s not too much of a disappointment – no condoms, tampons or love letters!
From nine o’clock there is…..
A ‘Peanuts’ from last week’s newspaper – one I’d not seen before but one that struck a chord with me and as I can’t think of any better cartoon, I pulled it out and kept it. (For those that care it’s the one where Linus and Lucy are talking and Linus says ‘stop and feel the sun on your back’ and then he ponders on it and says ‘and it’s completely free’. Wonderful stuff.) My tatty notebook that is stuffed with names, addresses, measurements of windows, shopping lists, Christmas pressie lists and all sorts of other important stuff.
My tatty Organ Donor card so someone else can have anything that’s left of me that’s useful when I leave this mortal coil. House keys and work ID card (both essential), my purse, still stuffed with foreign notes and coins (both Euros and US Dollars) and receipts that need to be submitted for expenses. A comb that I never use (since meeting DM I’ve followed his lead and don’t brush or comb my hair anymore – it’s amazing how good a feeling that is!
The newest book I’m reading, having finished Brick Lane on the plane back from the USA. A Homebase voucher (UK DIY chain) and my discount card from ‘Petfood Kingdom’ where I keep the owner of the store in whatever little luxuries he likes because I buy so much food for dogs, wabbits, hens and wild birds, and my passport, still there from last week.
My Spurs season ticket is there too but buried, some loose change (do coins jump out of other women’s purses and into the bottom of the bag regularly? I’ve often wondered if I’m alone in this!). There are tissues for that sad, happy or snivelly moment. Lastly, there is a selection of lippy and lip gloss as well as a cracked mirror to apply the aforementioned. The lippy is, as my sister so often tells me, the thing that makes my eyes sparkle and shine so it’s an essential.
As well as this stuff, there is a huge amount of fluff, a top off a long-gone pen and no end of bits of paper that have ‘essential’ things from long ago written or printed on them.
Oh, and of course there is usually a BIG, HEAVY camera too....but that's what took the photo!
Now you see what an exciting life I lead!
