We finally got to finish the South Caradon Mine walk today. A couple of hours with the Ordinance Survey map and the book of directions showed us where we went wrong the first time and, despite a short shower, the rain and clouds didn’t close in on us today. DM and the dogs took a short break on the edge of the hill to take in that marvellous view again and to allow me to get some shots of a few cows lounging around Pearce’s Shaft. I didn’t want to get too close with the dogs because I didn’t want the cows to get up and move. Pearce was clearly an intelligent man if the view where he sank his shaft was anything to go by!
I looked back, after taking my cow shots and saw this scene. The other photos I took are more interesting historically but this is my day – being back on top of the world with DM, Rosie and Archie.
BTW - you can just see the sea in this photo - where the line on the horizon dips just to the left of the centre....cool!
Since our arrival in Cornwall, we’ve done loads of walking and can feel ourselves getting fitter (less puffing going uphill). Today’s walk took nearly three hours and had lots of climbing steep inclines. Very good for the soul and equally good for the body.
Later, we started to tackle our new garden, which hasn’t seen a lawnmower or any other gardening implements at all for more than five years that we know about. It’s going to be a mammoth task getting it back in shape but we’ve made some good inroads today.
