16th July 2004 - Me ....oh and a little bit of Audrey!

I’ve always loved the Audrey Hepburn look – who wouldn’t? – she’s surely one of the most beautiful and stylish women in the world.

I’ve always loved dressing up. For years I’ve wanted to dress up like Audrey and have a photo done like her. Today, at the ripe old age of 43 I do my Audrey tribute. I’m not sure what that says but it certainly says ‘imitation is the best form of flattery. I can’t imagine wanting to dress up and look like Jennifer Anniston or Meg Ryan or Nichole Kidman.

When we were kids, we had a dressing up box that contained a big selection of my Mum’s old clothes and shoes. I think it’s where I got my love of 50s glamour from. Every time I used to put on a tailored dress with cinching at the waist I knew it was the ultimate in femininity and style. I never got over that love of the intensely stylish.

Jan and I used to spend hours dressed up in Mum’s old dresses and skirts and totter around on her shoes. It was the best fun you could have. Those really were the best of times.

I was in Tesco shopping last week and I saw the famous Breakfast at Tiffany’s photo and decided to emulate it as closely as possible (having reflected on the fact I couldn't look like her in a million years, but I could get the detail right). I have paid quite a lot of attention to the detail but have deliberately broken with the original in a number of ways. Firstly, as DM rightly said, the original isn’t sharp. This is. Secondly, the original is shot with a background full of clutter and I tried that but couldn’t get it close enough to the original so decided to go for a plain back drop. Thirdly, the original is in black and white but as you know, that just isn’t me.

The pearls etc are a makeshift job using a couple of necklaces and a brooch. The cigarette holder is courtesy of Beth and Karen who let me borrow it. The reflector holder is DM and he’s responsible for the flash in the hair. Thanks to Jo who 'assumed the position' so I could focus the camera.

Oh my, this is beginning to sound like an Oscar speech….I think it’s gone to my head! Normal service resumed tomorrow.

That's a terrific photo - I love the lighting and the props. I hope you print it in poster size and get a great frame for it. This is one to have in the living room.

Very elegant, Linda. What wonderful fun. Audrey Hepburn was the ultimate in glamour! I don't know , though, I wouldn't mind looking like Nicole Kidman.
