11th July 2004 - Buzzin'

I’ve had my head down all day today processing my portrait shoot from yesterday, so much so that I’ve neglected DM, the dogs and all the rest of the things I’d normally spend my Sunday doing. I am so pleased with the way the shoot has turned out (and DM’s response to them) that I have been buzzing, if a little tired.

Really, it was made so easy by Karen – like I said yesterday, it would have been hard to shoot a load of bad photos of such a gorgeous woman. She also made it easy because she wanted to pose for me – I suppose I’d have been surprised if she’d not been, given that she was the instigator of the shoot.

After I’d loaded the gallery, I was washed out completely and couldn’t think of an idea for a photo for today. I went outside to see if there was anything ripe in the veggie garden for supper and caught sight of this bee on the post of our bird table. He very kindly posed for this shot and I even had to go back inside to get it so he was extremely obliging.

I’d been looking for a bee shot to rival my bee shot from last summer and couldn’t get anything quite that good until today. I’ve had a few tries throughout the course of the summer but none were so good as that one. Today’s has turned out surprisingly well considering it was shot in very poor light at a high ISO.

Now, I need to go back and check out the veggies after my distraction, water in the greenhouse and make supper. Ah well, back down to earth with a bump then!

Lovely detail on this shot, Linda. Very nice shot. I haven't had a whole lot of success at taking pics of bees.

This is a great shot. You must either have a collection of trained extra large bees or just be plain good at photographing regular ones :-)

Looks fearsome, but apparently you can stroke bumble bees!

Nice scary detail on the legs, or are they paws? How do they hang on?

Fabulous macro!!

It is a good shot indeed, but, coming to close to the object will result in a loss of field deepth which is not allways wanted in Makro shots, unless you want to target a detail of the insect. This shot gives a nice impression of the upper bodyhalf of a Bumblebee.

Great shot. By the time it would have taken me to go back in to get a lens the bird table would have gone!!

That is remarkable!

This is a really great macro! I glanced at the photo from last year, wonder if the two bee's are related! :D
