…I have NO idea how that went.

So, a bit of downtime was in order – a trip to the student union bar with friends. It’s funny – four years of blood sweat and tears and it’s almost over. Two more exams to go and one other Uni commitment then I’m in the lap of the gods as to whether or not I pass.

I’m hardly a typical student in as much as it has been more than two years since I last went into the SU bar so:
1. They’re not going to make their fortune out of me – I spent a not-very-princely eight quid in there!
2. I won’t be getting many more “opportunities” to behave like a student.

Of the dozen or so of us sitting around, chatting, drinking and eating, four of us were from the same foundation/access course “Extended Science” which is why we’ve all been there for four years rather than three. I don’t get to socialise with them often or even see them often so this was a really nice, very chilled afternoon. One of the nice things about going into higher education as a mature student via an access course is the fact that you meet lots of people who are er, well, less young shall we say. Even though I am still the old bird of the course, I do have many friends in their thirties and forties from the foundation and it’s these folks who I have stayed friendly with throughout. That’s not to say that I avoid the young ‘uns, I don’t, but for whatever reason, my friends have tended to be mature students.

In common with many SU bars, I suspect, the bar at Plymouth is an odd rabbit warren of different rooms and styles. Being in there is a bit like being in a cave. There are only two small spots where there is some natural light and I must say that I’d always choose to sit on the sofa under a skylight rather than one in the dark. This is exactly how the photo came about – me, on a red sofa, under the skylight, looking up!
