little window

In the same village as the previous post, many of the children were most happy to
find visitors and get caught by the camera. They were curious, playful and innocent.
Some even came to me and tried asking for my name in their own few words.
I chose this shot as it appeared to create a little window for them to reveal themselves,
to tell their stories and to shine through. A window for perfect children in an imperfect world.
And yes Mel, photographing children always makes me feel nice and warm inside... :-)

What a marvelous shot. Ai Li, your tight framing brings us right into the hearts of these children. Brava!

Smart choice with the low angle.. the portrait is very natural and carefree, just the way children are anyway. I love especially the one on the right, the way it's not facing the camera, but looking up, almost lost in its dreams....

I also like this one because of the kid on the right not looking at the camera. It's a nice touch as you go along the line.

I seem drawn to that pendant that the child is wearing..feel like reaching out to look at it closely. Must be special.

you filled the frame with what's good..real and important..I love it..
Ros 17-Jan-2007 02:27
Beutiful... this is just excellent. I love the crop, with the faces on the fringes and the beautiful texture of the sweater taking prime spot. That hand, from a faceless child, could also make a poignant photo against the background. An extension of a welcome from an unknown person - depicting the warmth of this wonderful, yet complicated nation. WELCOME HOME!!!!!!!!!!!! xxx

Oh, great how they all try to squeeze in there! If you'd had a 8 mm fish, there would probably be fifty kids trying to squeeze in :-)
Galina Stepanova16-Jan-2007 21:01
Amazing close up, Ai Li.
Phil Douglis16-Jan-2007 20:53
Your framing is perfect, Ai Li. Once again, you remove half a face, implyiing continuation, keeping the imagnation of the viewer flowing. Your vanage point is superb -- you make the children into superior, rather than inferior beings. You not only have love for these kids, you have respect for them too-- and it shows.

So close to the viewer - heavenly feeling AiLi!
Guest 16-Jan-2007 17:47
Brilliant! Love this shot. I think this is an instant classic due to a couple of key elements: the hand pushing its way in and the boy to the right looking up - these add a real visual interest. Really great. Vote (of course).

Excellently composed with the children filling the frame - especially how low the camera is. Usually we're looking down on them to shoot..
