a dream... a reality

A humane world... that’s all I ask for...

~ I'm only human
Of flesh and blood I'm made
Human born to make mistakes ~

I’m leaving you all with this one... No special effects. Just layering of two real pictures taken by me.
Now working on a new sub-series under my exposed gallery. Stay tuned :-)

How I missed this one..
I feel the element of "Loneliness" in this photo.
So strong message and image!

Beautiful! As an architect, I can appreciate this work very much. It is how I imagine Singapore. Very well superimposed.

Like how your soul dominates over materiality here. That's how it should be...

An individual in the city - only human presence in this place made to "store" humans. I think that we can ask for it, but we also ought to be humane, and you have proven us that you are, Ai Li! Looking forward to your next step.

I'll be watching for the crazy and weird part =)

Absolutely fabulous.
JSWaters12-Nov-2006 16:12
I may be way off base here, but I get a sense more of who Ai Li is from this image. It doesn't have the gut punch of your more direct sp's, but the city scape superimposed over your form points to the evolution of your mind and spirit as a city girl trying to make peace with the teeming masses and hold on to a semblance of her (and the world's) humanity.

I really dig the underground comic book feel to this, urban dystopia ranged against the vulerability of the individual, naked against its callous glare. Very inventive and more importantly with these kind of pictures generally which often fail to live up to the intention - this one works.

AL, I like the photo and the message. I see your figure fading into the buildings and becoming part of them. It is a good idea. It is also a good idea for wanting a humane world but unfortunately I don't see that happening anytime soon.

One of my favorite songs. I use to have these words written in blue ink on my denim notebook. Thanks for stirring up a good memory. Lovely image.

I think the word Humane simply doesn't work. It means being human, and being human is not necessarily compassionate - as you say, we make mistakes, and collectively, we make even bigger ones.
Sory Al Li I'm not offended by this image at all, it's just that posting it on 11/11 (rememberance day) is probably while I feel like this. So many wasted lives, by humans.
Maybe you hint at this in your image anyway. The buildings in the background are man-made but are one giant complex - a product of beurocracy and the overseeing powers that create war.
It's great to see one large reminder that behind all these structures are real people with souls.

As much of a painting as a photograph, Ai Li. You become a cubistic element within the painting, an abstracted body whose geometric angles play off the angular structures in the paintiing. You make us remember that all of those buildings were built by beings of flesh and blood, like yourself. You also make us aware of how vulnerable the human body is -- the city is constantly growing and expanding, while the body gradually withers and dies. You worked my brain today, as usual, Ai Li.

When I was a young boy my father's friend took a picture of my brother sleeping but then developed with another exposure above him (of am alley of giggling girls). Anyway to cut a long (old) story short he told us that he had a camera that could take pictures of dreams and we believed him for years. This picture reminded me of that - the cityscape is very much that of dreams. Beautifully done Al Li.
