Sleeping Giant - Inishtooskert

Slea Head, Dingle Peninsula, Co. Kerry

Inishtooskert (Northern Island - in Gaelic) is the northernmost of the Blasket Islands in County Kerry.
The island is also known as An Fear Marbh (The Dead Man - in Gaelic) or The Sleeping Giant - due to its appearance when seen from the east (as in the photograph).
Inishtooskert holds important seabird colonies, as well as extensive ruins of ancient stone buildings.
Of particular note is the colony of European storm-petrels.
With over 27,000 pairs (Sea-bird Survey 2000), this is the largest colony in Ireland or Britain.

Beautiful colour and I can see why it's called 'Sleeping Giant'.

What wonderful light and colors in this great image. The flowers in the foreground frame the "Sleeping Giant" perfectly! BV
