Lew,
Once again, you prevail with beautiful imagery! The Dahlias are just gorgeous! The plant listed as "unidentified" is called a "Red Hot Poker" I have several in my garden. Unfortunately for those of us in Virginia, they bloom about June and once each flower dies, it does not produce more buds. :-(
Each year the rhizome will "multiply" and the following year a few more flowers are produced as a result.
