Gopherus polyphemus
This tortoise was called to my attention by Cathy Contino of Jacksonville, FL
The identity of this tortoise was subsequently confirmed by the
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
In Florida, the Gopher Tortoise is listed as "THREATENED".
Both the tortoise and its burrow are protected under state law
