Phnom Penh

Phnom Penh is the nondescript capital of Cambodia containing only two really interesting sites: the Royal Palace, as well as the infamous Tuol Sleng prison (S-21), a former secondary school or lycee converted into a prison where thousands of Cambodians were tortured and/or murdered.
The Royal Palace is pagoda architecture built by the French soon after Cambodia became a protectorate. The palace consists of several separate buildings of lacquered, box-like edifices, their roofs curled up in the eastern fashion.
