Pacers are not allowed the first 17 mile to minimize congestion on the course. After 17 miles at the Furnace Creek check, pacers are allowed for the remaining distance of the race. Most runners have several people that can trade off in pacing. Everyone on my crew paced me, but Nikki paced me the farthest, a total of about 100k.
