International Society for Aviation Photography (ISAP)

The ISAP-XI symposium was held on May 17 through 19, 2012, in Norfolk, Virginia. Current plans for the symposium’s field trip include visits to the Military Aviation Museum’s Fighter Factory and Naval Air Station Oceana.

Speakers include Scott Kelby, who will share valuable Photoshop tips and techniques. Eddie Tapp will present “Air-Crafting Digital,” demonstrating workflow options to produce the best digital images and prints. Scott Slocum will showcase his air-to-air work, both still photography and video. RC Concepcion will focus on website design and using social media. Carolyn Wright, a photographer and attorney, will address copyright and other legal issues. Lyle Jansma and Jose “Fuji” Ramos also will speak.

The symposium includes two days of educational presentations, ISAP member slide show, portfolio reviews, lunch each day, a closing banquet Saturday evening, and bus transportation for Friday’s field trip. The symposium’s popular field trip allows members to shoot alongside a host of world-renowned aviation photographers.

In addition, the ISAP board has selected Jim Koepnick as the recipient of this year’s George Hall Lifetime Achievement Award. Koepnick has been a professional photographer for 32 years. During his 28 years as chief photographer for EAA, he photographed more than 500 magazine covers. As a freelancer, he is widely recognized for his creative approach to subjects that include weddings, events, commercial, automobiles, sports, underwater, and travel, in addition to aviation. Koepnick’s award-winning photographs have appeared in Life, Time, Flying, Men’s Journal, People, Wisconsin Trails, and Popular Mechanics; advertising clients include Columbia Coffee and Canon.
