This building was built for the no longer existent department store Fábricas Unversales. It was built in 1906 and designed by Miguel Ángel de Quevedo (1862–1946). It now houses a branch of the international retailer C & A. | Quevedo, an engineer and architect, is better remembered as an environmentalist. His efforts in saving forests earned him the nickname el apóstol del árbol (the tree apostle). The metro station named after him uses the symbol below. |
