C - El Correo Frances

During the Porfirian period (1877-1910, the presidency of of the dictator Porfirio Díaz), Mexican cultural tastes followed and imitated what was going on in Paris. Many stores catering to the upper classes used the word Frances (French) or Francia (France) in their names.

El Correro Frances (the French Post Office) was a clothing store belonging to the firm M. Lambert y Compañía, as can be seen in the Venetian mosaic decorations. The building was designed by Paul Dubois in the 1920s, most likely his first project after finishing the Palacio de Hierro.
