Oak galls on the stem of Bur Oak leaves, made by Andricus dimorphus

Ottawa west

These galls are made by the tiny cynipid wasp Andricus dimorphus, as shown on Bug Guide. Cynipid wasps, of different species, are responsible for most of the various galls we find on oaks. Here they are on Quercus macrocarpa, the bur oak.

My thought on viewing the thumbnail was that you'd visited the tropics and found an exotic fruit!
