Garter snake (Thamnophis sirtalis

Burnt Lands Provincial Park

This poor Garter Snake must have been almost frozen and I was quite surprised to see it given the cold wind and temperatures. In a sunny sheltered spot it wouldn't have been too bad, but this snake was out in the open with the wind whipping across.

It looks to be in great shape and newly shed. I like the eye level perspective. Voted.

Sharp eyes to see him as he blends so well with the autumn colours - and you got nose to nose with him.
