Caterpillar on Basswood, possibly Catocala cerogama, #8802

Reveler Conservation Area

I am not sure of the ID of this species, but am wondering if it is an early (or late) instar of Catocala cerogama in the previous shot. They were feeding in a basswood very close together and earlier instars (or later instars) can look very different from each other.

These guys are awfully cute, and you have capture this one so well. I like how he sort of accommodates himself to the shape of the leaf. V.
