Burrower bug (Sehirus cinctus) on Stachys

Often found on flowers, especially those in the mint family. It is native to eastern and southern North America, where it is commonly found in gardens (here, the Fletcher Wildlife Garden), and meadows. Although the adult is this nice shiny black with a smart white peripheral band, the juveniles are bright red.

Interesting. We have a lot of mint growing near the end of the driveway. I'll have to look for this bug.
