Case-bearing leaf beetle (Bassareus mammifer)

Larose Forest

This tiny little ladybeetle look-alike is really a Chrysomelid beetle in the subfamily Cryptocephalinae. The larvae of beetles in this group create protective cases made of their own frass (insect poop). Thanks to Bug Guide for ID help.

I bet that casing is like cement. Pretty little beetle and it does resemble a lady bug. V.
